Joanna Rosenfeld 「Resonant Void」

*Resonant Void*

Enter the quiet tension of *Resonant Void*, a solo performance that explores the balance between separation and unity, identity and anonymity. Using simple props—mosquito net, plastic sheets, black skirt, and white paper—the piece invites reflection on the boundaries we create and dissolve. Through shifts in movement, light, and sound, it offers a space to contemplate transformation and the resonance of what connects and divides us

Performance and Choreography Joanna Rosenfeld
Music Keita Miyano

This piece was born in Saruhashi, at Yuko Kawamoto’s Butoh Camp in the
Hijikata archive and at Motoya Kondo’s Single Thread Butoh residency in Nagoya.
It is the result of 5 years of intense research and practice, during which I have asked myself many timed “why Butoh?”, and “what is Butoh?”, and “is this Butoh?”
I have no answers to these questions, only that somehow I need to make work and that practicing Butoh helps me make way for this kind of work to come through, whatever we will make of it together.
I hope you enjoy it. Let’s talk after.

Thanks go to Suisei Gallery, Haru san, Tetsuro (you know why), Daisuke Yoshimoto for giving me space to practice, Morishita Takashi for encouraging me, and of course Tatsumi Hijikata, who talked to me in my dreams.

About Joanna Rosenfeld
born and raised in Germany, she is an award winning
(outstanding theatre award Brighton 2018, audience choice
award Rialto Theatre 2021) British performance and theatre
artist/director/performer/dancer/body researcher, with a
movement practice based in CI, Butoh and physical theatre.
She is Artistic director of AboutFace Theatre Company and

Her work exposes collective trauma and sheds light on
taboos.
She holds a Master of Arts degree from the Johann
Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt and has been a
lecturer at the Academy of Creative Training and other
drama schools and universities for over 20 years.
Her work focuses on connection, the passage of time,
death, grief, the environment, and our relationship to these
concepts, starting with autobiographical material through
her own body of work and expanding it into a collective
exploration, often using improvised elements in her scores.
She is interested in the transformative and non-
hierarchical process in both solo and collaborative settings.
Joanna Rosenfeld is delighted to bring her art practice and
her Butoh research inspired solo to Japan.
In Japan she has performed with Conan Amok in Luminous
Ashes at Dance Base Yokohama and Con Ton Ton Vivo in
Tokyo, with Azu Minami, Tetsuro and Conan Amok in the
performance series ‘Dialogue Without Words’, at Yuko
Kawamoto’s Butoh Camp at the Saruhashi Studio and in
MIRRORS, a collection of solo performances developed
with Motoya Kondo in Nagoya.
